What is Alpha GPC?
Alpha GPC, or alpha glycerylphosphorylcholine, is one of the forms of choline (next to CDP choline). The compound is also referred to as choline alfoscerate, alpha-glycerophosphocholine, α-GPC, glycerin alfoscerate, and (2S) -2,3-dihydroxypropyl-2- (trimethylazanimyl) ethyl phosphate. This form of choline occurs physiologically in the human body. It is distinguished by excellent water solubility. Unlike choline itself, lpha GPC crosses the blood-brain barrier. Therefore, it can be a choline carrier to the central nervous system – the molecule of this compound contains more than 40% of choline. This compound breaks down into choline and glycerophosphate. Both of these compounds perfectly strengthen cell membranes and ensure their integrity. Additionally, choline is used in the synthesis of the acetylcholine neurotransmitter.

Application of Alpha GPC
Alpha glycerylphosphorylcholine is a preparation used to improve cognitive functions. It is perfect for people who need to improve their learning processes. The preparation facilitates the assimilation of information and improves memory. In addition, it supports motivation and willingness to act.

The preparation may support the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease – a neurodegenerative disease with cognitive impairment. As the preparation contributes to the increase in the synthesis of growth hormone, it can be used in states of deficiency of this hormone. The effects of supplementation can be felt both during immediate and long-term use.

Mechanism of action
Alpha GPC is a choline carrier, which is used as a precursor for the synthesis of acetylcholine. This neurotransmitter activates the cholinergic system, thanks to which it supports cognitive functions. The use of α-GPC is accompanied by an increased secretion of acetylcholine in the hippocampus of the brain. Increased cholinergic neurotransmission has also been observed.

The supportive effect of the preparation on the brain also results from the improvement of cerebral circulation. Thanks to the increase in blood pressure in the brain, there is a better oxygenation and nourishment of the brain cells.

Alpha GPC dosage
The daily dose of α-GPC is approximately 300 to 1,200 mg. Typically 400 mg is taken 2-3 times a day in between work. It is preferable to combine this form of choline with uridine.
